NWA Jirga members boycott PM’s function: The News

Mushtaq Yusufzai

PESHAWAR: The North Waziristan tribal jirga on Friday refused meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and boycotted his official function in Bannu after they were not allowed to speak and inform the premier about sufferings of the uprooted families.

“We refused to meet the prime minister and attend his official function in Bannu as the government and military officials had asked us to attend the gathering, enjoy the lunch but don’t open our mouth in front of the prime minister,” Sher Mohammad Wazir, head of North Waziristan tribal jirga, told The News on telephone from Bannu.

Sher Mohammad Wazir said some government officials had earlier assured them that someone from the jirga would be given a chance to speak and talk about the hardships of the internally displaced persons from North Waziristan.

“However, when elders of our jirga were preparing to draft demands and raise the deplorable condition of the uprooted families in Bannu and other places, senior government officials backtracked of their commitment,” the tribal elder complained.

Sher Mohammad Wazir, grandson of known freedom fighter Mirza Ali Khan alias Faqir of Epi, alleged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was kept in dark about the whole situation in North Waziristan and the plight of IDPs.

Another prominent member of the jirga, Hafiz Noorullah Shah said that the government later brought some ordinary tribesmen from among the IDPs and put turbans on their heads and presented them as tribal elders to the prime minister when members of the tribal jirga decided to boycott the official function.

“Senior government and military officials had approached us to attend the function and enjoy the lunch but said we would not be allowed to speak. We were anxiously waiting for the prime minister to come so we could inform him about the real situation on ground and then the inhuman treatment meted out with the displaced tribespeople. But they didn’t allow us to talk and we refused to boycott his function,” Hafiz Noorullah Shah said.

He said no one from 40-mmeber NWA tribal jirga attended the prime minister function in Bannu. “Government and military officials wanted us to stay away from the prime minister as they knew we would inform him about the real situation on ground. We also wanted inform the prime minister that all local and foreign troublemakers had left North Waziristan before the launch of military operation there. Therefore, we wanted to demand him to direct military authorities not to destroy our houses and markets,” tribal elder Sher Mohammad Wazir complained.

He complained that several houses and markets owned by local tribesmen had been blown up in Miranshah and Mir Ali despite the fact that people had fled the area.“Only innocent people are being suffered in this operation and that’s our main concern but no body is listening to us,” jirga head complained.

He said that after a meeting with governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and corps commander Peshawar, who gave them a deadline of June 20, the jirga went to Waziristan and held fruitful talks with the North Waziristan Taliban shura and all them agreed to expel local and foreign militants from the tribal region.

“We have successfully expelled half of the foreign militants and were going to oust the remaining when the military operation was launched. We wanted to complain the prime minister but were not given a chance,” Sher Mohammad Wazir complained.

He said the IDPs are being treated like animals but no one taking its notice. After the prime minister left for Islamabad, Sher Mohammad Wazir said senior government officials came to them and wanted them to end their protest.

“We told them that you people are treating us like animals. We made it clear on them that we don’t need your Rs20, 000 cash but don’t destroy our houses and buildings in Waziristan,” the tribal elder said.

He said they demanded of the government to give one-week relaxation in curfew in Waziristan so that people could bring out their precious goods they had left in home.A top government official when contacted in Bannu confirmed that some of the jirga members had boycotted the PM’s function but a few others were seen participating in the gathering.

“In the morning, the came to the office of commissioner Bannu and then went to the residence of Senator Faridullah Khan for a meeting. They couldn’t develop consensus whether they should boycott or attend the PM’s meeting after they were stopped from speaking. Later some of the elders decided to attend the function and others boycotted it,” the official said and wished not to be named.

Mehsud group separation from TTP: A window of peace opportunity which should not be missed

According to media reports, Mehsud tribes faction of TTP has left the TTP under Fazlullah due to internal fighting. This event can be used as an opportunity to take Mehsud and Wazir tribes on board for peace.

Instead of using aerial bombings and military operation against civilian populations of Mehsud and Wazir tribes, its time to take them on board for peace in the area. Army will not do it as they don’t find any charm in peace, its the duty of civilian leadership to take the lead.

A window of peace opportunity has opened up which shouldn’t be missed. PMLN,PTI and JI who took votes on their anti-war and anti-drone stances should now do some real efforts even if they have to confront the occupied mercenary armed forces of Pakistan who have been fighting this war as hired guns for imperialist powers.

Disappointments with my friends

I really hate myself while writing this but need to write it to give an honest view point.

I am really disappointed with almost all of my Shia friends who support this war. I thought there must be some good significant number of Shias in Pakistan who don’t blindly toe the line of that Jerk Khemenei or Seestani but here it seems its not the case and almost all are determined to push not only their selves in this more war mess and resulting terrorism but also others too. Almost all my Shia friends cannot see the fact they are being used as a fuel for this war by Pakistani and other pro-war establishments including their beloved Khomenist regime in Iran.

I also criticize sunni or deobandi or ahl-e-hadith or other sects and social classes for the hate based crap some of their leaders or other people do (LeJ or ST or Mumtaz Qadri or Malik Ishaq types) but a clear thing which disappoints me is that others have broad range of views and diversity at extremes (almost all against innocent killings except few mad people) but for my almost all Shia friends it looks that they are toeing some kind of deep rooted hate based agenda against others with no room for reconciliation.

They need to know no anti-war on terror person supports suicide attacks on Hazara or on other Shia communities but what I have seen is that almost all (not all) of my Shia friends feel really happy when they know about deaths of people including children from other sects in tribal areas, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan or any where else. Even in Pakistan, they don’t really sympathize with anyone else but merely use one majority sect like Barelvi against the others like Deobandi or Ahl-e-Hadith. The trend is not just in religious maniacs but also evident in so called liberal or moderates.

I have always criticized army for this war mess but those who think they are being victimized should also see where they are going or what they are becoming in blind hatred.

They are trying to eliminate any space for those who want peaceful resolution of this war issue as probably it doesn’t fit into their hate based agenda to settle some centuries old good for nothing historical issues. Anti-war on terror people always condemn LeJ or other groups but unfortunately my Shia friends almost never condemn aerial bombings or military’s use of heavy conventional or even chemical weapons against other sects which is a crime even in worldly laws.

I don’t have any sympathies now for those who want innocent killings on both sides to satisfy their hatred for other sects and social classes. my only concern is those unrelated (who do not support this war or resulting terrorism) people who die as collateral damage but unfortunately there is no way to discriminate one from the other in aerial or suicide bombings which Shia groups want when they support this war.

May the wrath of Allah be on those from both sides of the conflict (Army, TTP, MWM,LeJ,SUC,SIC, PPP, ST,PMLN,MQM or others) who support these mass murders either through aerial/drone/military bombings or through suicide attacks.

Even India never does aerial bombings (drone or jet) on civilian populated areas despite almost 2 dozens of insurgencies.

I pray for the hardest wrath of Allah on those who consider innocent dead kids as an unavoidable or tolerable or necessary collateral damage.

I still pray for the blind followers of this corrupt system to get on the path of justice and peace but it seems we are going for complete self-destruction.

If the hatred is about religion or sects then at least while supporting aerial bombings, we should remember what the holy book says:

“O ye who believe! Be steadfast witnesses for Allah in equity, and let not hatred of any people seduce you that ye deal not justly. Deal justly, that is nearer to your duty. Observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.” [Al-maeda ,8]

Pakistan Airforce using jet bombings in civilian populated areas

It seems war propaganda machine has won and now mercenary occupied armed forces of Pakistan are going for a full scale offensive against tribal populations to hunt down few alleged terrorists. According to various reports, several dozens including women and children have been killed in aerial bombings by Pakistan Airforce.

These aerial bombings are a victory for enemies of Pakistan and its people. World is making progress in space tech, energy resource development, education etc and improving the lives of their people but Pakistan is stuck an imported war.

I don’t care much about the deaths of willing combatants from both sides (Army or TTP) and now losing sympathies for the deaths of people related to sectarian groups chanting for more war as it is their own choice to jump in the mess and become a fuel for this war. My real concern is about the lives of innocent civilians who die as collateral damage.

Terrorism is not a justifiable think but to go for same policies which produced TTP or suicide attacks in the first place is something ridiculous.

So called civil society is divided on the issue due to social class and sectarian differences which Musharraf regime exploited well for the war.

I hope we can have joint protests against military operations and suicide attacks. Unfortunately what I have seen is that these anti-terrorist attack protests turn into a war propaganda tool and this war is one of the main reasons behind this TTP or suicide attacks. Before demanding for more war to control suicide attacks or TTP, people need to know that there were not TTP or suicide attacks before this war.

USAID fame Sunni Ittehad council and Iranian poodles MWM joining hands against talks with Talibans.

USAID fame Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and Iranian poodles MWM joining hands against talks with Talibans. It gives some idea how things are going in the region especially Iraq and Afghanistan. Syria was just a trap set for rising Turkey and another way to exploit sectarianism in the region.

If Shias realize how harmful these Khomenists are for their interest then it can bring some chance of peace for them and others. If these corrupt Sunni Ittehad council guys start not to use sectarianism to gain monetarily or politically then they can do some good for others too.

Both are playing as puppets of USA/Iran and their slaves in army/agencies/politics to push Pakistan into more and more war mess.

Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are no saints and have committed too many transgressions against non-combatant populations but they are the result of this mess. This phenomenon of terrorism cannot be dealt properly if we do not address the root cause of this mess. Root causes are Pakistan army’s role of a mercenary organization for their client USA against Afghanistan and Pakistani tribes, Pakistan’s soil being used for NATO supplies to strengthen the occupation, Pakistani bases being used to occupy a neighboring country (also for drones) and finally one of the main root cause is the support to these wars and wrong actions provided by sectarian and social class fascists sitting in army, politics, media and civil society.

People need to learn that senseless bombings and operations have created most of these militants in the first place and continuing with this bullshit will only create more terrorism. But how can someone convince those who are blinded by sectarianism or dollars?

Do the designers of this war have any favorite sects or social classes?

The designers of this wars sitting in Washington surely make it look like a war between sufi vs non sufi or shia/barelvi vs deobandi/ahl e hadith/wahabi sects or between liberals and conservatives or moderates and extremists or between other social class groupsbut in actual they don’t share even a little bit of sympathy for anyone.

All they know is to exploit fault lines which they are doing. i agree that IK seems to be the only major leader who has some sort of idea what is going on with this war or in the region.

The unfortunate part is that their dollar slaves in Pakistan are also toeing their line despite seeing all the destruction. Another dangerous element of this war is Khomenist’s direct and indirect support which is also not helping the cause. They think they can go on for long with their sectarian imperialism but in actual they are destroying the future of not only Sunnis or others they don’t like but most importantly they are harming the interests of people they claim to represent i.e Shias in the region.

Its time to start acting like thinking humans not some sheep or insects. We need to come out of this self-destructive mode.

Hakeem-ullah Mehsud, Drone Strike and Peace Talks

I just saw new reports saying that Tehrik e Taliban (TTP) leader Hakeem ullah Mehsud has been killed in recent drone strikes in tribal areas of Pakistan.

Hakim ullah was/is one of the most controversial figures of our country. His death like this might have made some people happy and some people are surely confused about the legitimacy or moral justification of extra-judicial killings.

In my view if you think that extra-judicial killing of Hakeem ullah Mehsud through a drone strike is a good news then you are part of the terrorism problem Pakistan is into. These strikes are not only an attack on Pakistan’s sovereignty but they are one of the main reasons behind the mess.

They did similar with Naik Muhammad when he was willing to talk which motivated Bait ullah Mehsud to start his war, then same happened with Bait ullah Mehsud when there was a momentum of talks which paved way for Hakeem ullah Mehsud and now Hakeem ullah Mehsud got the same treatment when he was willing to talk. Hakeem ullah was not a saint (In fact I think of him as an unwanted product of this war mess) but killing him like this will only create more like him and not to forget the legitimacy USA will try to get for its drone strikes war crimes through this.

It seems USA and its puppets in Pakistan along with Khomenists in establishment and civil society don’t want Pakistan to come out of this war mess.

On one hand both USA and Iran are talking to Talibans using back doors but for Pakistan, they have a different plan. They want Pakistan to remain stuck in this war and internally implode.

Transgressions were done from both sides (army and talibans) but we need ot address the root cause first. Root cause lies in military operations and army’s support to USA war against afghanistan/pakistani tribal areas. I am not sure how many people will keep their sanity when they will be bombed day and night mercilessly especially when they know that different sections of society support these insane bombings by army and drones due to their sectarian and social class prejudices. Imagine the trauma for kids who were and are growing into this mess. these kids can be used by anyone for anything as they have only seen senseless death and destructions through out their lives especially at a time when thier minds and thought processes are taking shape.

How many suicide attacks were there before this war? How many militant taliban groups were operating as TTP before this war and military operations?

Either this is a lie or ISI/CIA are new Al-Qaeda. Imagine what other crimes (Benazir Murder,Islamic University Blast,Peshawar Market Blast etc)they may have done in the name of Al-Qaeda,TTP etc , infact many of the gorups have doubtful origins and no one knows where in hell they have come from.

Flogging Video of Swat was Fake–>This whole War on Terror is fake

It has now been reported through media and reports are also with the government that the flogging video which provided the justification of indiscriminate bombings and extra-judicial killings in Swat was fake.People are blaming NGOs but we need to know all this is not possible without the support of government agencies. In fact his whole war on terror is fake. This weapon-blood-dollar game is fake, they are playing with our fears, cahsing our prejudices and social class differences to control our lives.

Army and so called liberals(in fact they are real fascists) don’t want to end this war because of their temporary benefits and satisfaction of their prejudices. They don’t realize or don’t want to realize that this game is setting some real wrong principles which can dangerous for them.
If indiscriminate bombings are right of tribal people then how can we protest if someone does the same on our so called civil society. Its an issue of setting wrong principles.

We need to come out of thie war against humanity, peace and justice wrongly named war against terror. It is destroying our country and social fabric, we need to think above our prejudices and short term benefits.

Video of girl’s flogging in Swat was ‘fake’

The News

PESHAWAR: A resident of Swat, who claims to have prepared the fake video of flogging of a girl in Swat, has termed it drama and revealed that he received Rs0.5 million for doing so before the launch of military operation ‘Rah-e-Rast’.

Before the operation ‘Rah-e-Rast’, an NGO financed preparation of fake video of flogging in which they portrayed the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members flogging a woman. The provincial government and Malakand Commissioner Syed Muhammad Javed ordered investigations and sought report from the authorities concerned.

After the successful operation in Malakand division, the law-enforcement agencies had arrested the children who were present in the video while a resident of Swat was apprehended by Kohat administration. The children and the arrested man revealed that the video was fake and said that it was made on the demand of Islamabad-based NGO which provided him Rs0.5 million.

Sources revealed that woman who was flogged in the video was also arrested and she revealed that she had received Rs0.1 million while Rs50,000 were given to each child. Sources said that the NGO produced the video to defame the country’s integrity and respect.

Sources stated that the law-enforcement agencies dispatched the report about the arrests of the culprits and proposed action against the NGO. They also said that the security agencies also apprehended the TTP workers who flogged the people.
