Support Appeal For Dr. Afia Siddiqi(Prisoner 650 Bagram Jail)–>AHRC

A Pakistani Dr. Afia Siddiqi who was kidnapped(with her little children) by Pakistani and USA agencies in 2003 is in Bagram Jail in Afghanistan.

According to media reports she has faced severe torture and due to constant rape by allied force members she has lost her mind.

Please support the appeal for Dr. Afia :

Where is Dr Afia Siddiqui? AHRC

Dr. Afia Siddiqui [Photo] left her mother’s house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, Sindh province, along with her three children, in a Metro-cab on March 30, 2003 to catch a flight for Rawalpindi, Punjab province, but never reached the airport. The press reports claimed that Dr. Afia had been picked-up by Pakistani intelligence agencies while on her way to the airport and initial reports suggested that she was handed over to the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). At the time of her arrest she was 30 years and the mother of three sons the oldest of which was four and the youngest only one month.

A few days later an American news channel, NBC, reported that Afia had been arrested in Pakistan on suspicion of facilitating money transfers for terror networks of Osama Bin Laden. The mother of the victim, Mrs. Ismat (who has since passed away) termed the NBC report absurd. She went on to say that Dr. Afia is a neurological scientist and has been living with her husband, Amjad, in the USA for several years.

On April 1, 2003, a small news item was published in an Urdu daily with reference to a press conference of the then Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat. When questioned with regard to Dr. Afia’s arrest he denied that she had been arrested. This was followed by another Urdu daily article on April 2 regarding another press conference in which the same minister said Dr. Afia was connected to Al Qaeda and that she had not been arrested as she was absconding. He added: “You will be astonished to know about the activities of Dr. Afia” A Monthly English magazine of Karachi in a special coverage on Dr. Afia reported that one week after her disappearance, a plain clothed intelligence went to her mother’s house and warned her, “We know that you are connected to higher-ups but do not make an issue out of your daughter’s disappearance.” According to the report the mother was threatened her with ‘dire consequences’ if she made a fuss.

Whilst Dr. Afia’s whereabouts remain unknown, there are reports of a woman called ‘Prisoner 650′ is being detained in Afghanistan’s Bagram prison and that she has been tortured to the point where she has lost her mind. Britain’s Lord Nazeer Ahmed, (of the House of Lords), asked questions in the House about the condition of Prisoner 650 who, according to him is physically tortured and continuously raped by the officers at prison. Lord Nazeer has also submitted that Prisoner 650 has no separate toilet facilities and has to attend to her bathing and movements in full view of the other prisoners.

Also, on July 6, 2008 a British journalist, Yvonne Ridley, called for help for a Pakistani woman she believes has been held in isolation by the Americans in their Bagram detention centre in Afghanistan, for over four years. “I call her the ‘grey lady’ because she is almost a ghost, a spectre whose cries and screams continues to haunt those who heard her,” Ms Ridley said at a press conference.

Ms Ridley, who went to Pakistan to appeal for help, said the case came to her attention when she read the book, The Enemy Combatant, by a former Guantanamo detainee, Moazzam Begg. After being seized in February 2002 in Islamabad, Mr Begg was held in detention centres in Kandahar and Bagram for about a year before he was transferred to Guantanamo Bay. He recounted his experiences in the book after his release in 2005. Mr. Imran Khan, leader of Justice Party (T.I) suspects that prisoner 650 is the Dr. Afia Siddiqui and USA and Pakistani authorities are hiding facts of ‘Prisoner 650′.

To date, neither the American nor the Pakistani government have come out about the arrest and detention of Dr. Afia in either Bagram or Guantanamo Bay where suspected terrorists are held. On December 30, 2003 Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, Dr. Afia elder sister met with Mr Faisal Saleh Hayat at Islamabad with Mr Ejazul Haq, MNA, regarding the whereabouts of Dr. Afiai. Mr Faisal told Dr. Fawzia and Mr Ejazul Haq that according to his information Dr. Afia Siddiqui had already been released and that she (Dr. Fawzia) should go home and wait for a phone call from her sister.

Dr. Afia Siddiqui, who studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US, for about 10 years and did her PhD in genetics, returned to Pakistan in 2002. Having failed to get a suitable job, she again visited the US on a valid visa in February 2003 to search for a job and to submit an application to the US immigration authorities. She moved there freely and came back to Karachi by the end of February 2003 after renting a post office box in her name in Maryland for the receipt of her mail. It has been claimed by the FBI (Newsweek International, June 23, 2003, issue) that the box was hired for one Mr Majid Khan, an alleged member of Al Qaeda residing in Baltimore.

Throughout March 2003 flashes of the particulars of Dr. Afia were telecast with her photo on American TV channels and radios painting her as a dangerous Al Qaeda person needed by the FBI for interrogation. On learning of the FBI campaign against her she went underground in Karachi and remained so till her kidnapping. The June 23, 2003, issue of Newsweek International was exclusively devoted to Al Qaeda. The core of the issue was an article “Al Qaeda’s Network in America”. The article has three photographs of so-called Al Qaeda members – Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, Dr. Afia Siddiqui and Ali S. Al Marri of Qatar who has studied in the US like Dr. Siddiqui and had long since returned to his homeland. In this article, which has been authored by eight journalists who had access to FBI records, the only charge leveled against Dr. Afia is that “she rented a post-office box to help a former resident of Baltimore named Majid Khan (alleged Al Qaeda suspect) to help establish his US identity.

    I am still shocked since i heard about Dr.Afia.. I can’t sleep and can’t think any thing other than her sufferings. I feel extreme shame for what our government has done with that innocent lady. If she was involved in any of the terrorist activities, our government shouldn’t hand over her to US. Does our law is soo weak that we can’t even afford a prosecution.

    I am so sorry for Dr Afia and her family. I am so disturbed for what our government has done!!!

    May Allah save Dr. Afia from more sufferings and ease her pain. May Allah grant her freedom from the hell shes detained in. Aamin

    Among many other unhuman and immoral things commited by our government, handing over an inoccent daughter of the nation to the custody of the worlds number 1 terrorist is really very shameful. it is the responcibility of the whole nation to bring her back from the cruel hands of united states by any means possible and if we dont do so we will be asked and questioned about this on the day of judgement. I would pray may allah give her free and joyfull life.

    Its really shocking..not only for us as pakistanis but for all the people in the world who trust that justice is for all….its very sad…. Its not even a case of Dr. Afia…but many more..who are waiting for the ray of light..in there dark cells.

    I just as human,feel so insecure in this world..and especially as women..who has no place and no voice…This world is really proud of such poeple who really contribute to justice…as their thinking is beyond religion, ethinic groups, black n white and all other social, political barriers.

    I hope that soon we will see Dr. Afia and her three children alive and happy… as a woman and than as a paksitani….i really really thanked our British journalist, Yvonne Ridley who has given a voice for Dr. Afia…

    I hope too tht all these mentioned international justice intistutions will look upon this case.

    The detention of Dr. Afia is deep sorrow moment for whole Muslim Umah. Did Islam taught us that being as muslim we let them having our values in hands of enemies of Islam? No certainly not.
    Islam is the only religion who give message of peace and teaches human rights. On contrary to that what Government of Pakistan had done with her. This is a time to awake ourself to protect our sisters and daughters from Americans wild detention. Unfortunately our Country is no longer in hands of our rulers now. American are ruling in fact. This is time to show Africans our solidarity and Unity being as Muslim in such crucial time. If still we don’t awake for our rights then next generation will not excuse us. May Allah bless Dr. Afia and we hope she gets free soon.

    What can you say about the president of a country who sold innocent citizens to US without proving them in the court of law. Dr Afia was held in Bagram Airbase without Charge for Five years. Tortured to such heights that she lost her mental balance. I cant think how the people of the intelligence agencies of Pakistan who handed her over to US sleep at night. Where are all those so-called champions of Human Rights in the western world. Where is UN? Is the new democratic setup in Pakistan sleeping. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Disappearing our citizens overnight without trail and throwing them in to torture camps like Bagram. For a moment if you even believe that Dr Afia is guilty what about her three small kids. Where are they. Whats their crime. I call upon the authorities in Pakistan to secure immediate release of Dr Afia and her three childed and the trial of the people who handed her over and who kept her, tortured her.

    i dont know from which background you people are but one thing is for sure if the things happened with dr. afia (leave aside the argument what mindset she belonged, I consider her and innocent and educated Pakistani women) was right just because you like musharraf and dislike her I am afraid someday someone will do the similar with you or someone you can relate yourselves just because he or she doesn’t like you.

    Even in worse of ideological clashes norms of humanity must be respected because we all are humans (I don’t know whether you people consider yourselves 1 or 2 step above if yes then I can only say May Allah show you the right path or protect others from your evils).

    its sad that this has happen to yet another \Pakistani, but by now it should come as a suprise, becues that is what the good old USA does to human. it seem no muslim has any human rights. the Amricans should be ashamed of their government and also of their own failiar to do something about it. Their pets and animals have more rights than people from other countries. pakistani government it seems is just a sad pathetic puppet, yet more are fighting to be among the puppets, it is realy shameful.

    Found out a Tributed poem by Mr. Hassan Abbas and a nice article about her back-life and bright student career.

    She was arrested by the Pakistani Agencies and handed over to CIA after labelling as as secret terrorist operator.

    A Glorious Dawn…And A Better Day

    To Dr.Afia Siddiqui – prisoner # 650 in American custody

    Another dawn …another day,
    Disgrace; insult is thrown our way;
    Yet shamelessly on their golden perch
    The spineless look – Oh how they sway!

    As if there is no Lord above,
    They with the devil-hand in glove;
    Selling our dearest values and souls,
    For gold and power – push and shove!

    This crime you saw they so denied,
    To filthy scum they sold the bride;
    Yet the mighty Creator seeing it all
    Unveils the gruesome act they hide!

    Amongst ravenous wolves the fair one lies,
    As from brutish hands she helplessly flies;
    A suffering sister sane no more,
    Her anguished screams – they rent the skies.

    And this is all the pride you boast,
    Our tormentors you daily host !
    Comrades but yesterday we shared the cup,
    – And today so far apart we coast ?

    When comes a ‘Qasim’ to stem this rot?
    Of Almighty Allah and His Messenger forgot!
    Of cheaply selling our heritage which –
    With submiss

    Guys don’t b mad at Tanya n Tariq. What’s the point in getting angry over a couple of guys who have nothing to do with Islam or Pakistan. Focus on their words “you Paki ignorant ppl…” …u’ll understand what they r… Anyways if a dog (and in this case a dog n a bitch) bites u will u bite back? I pray that Allah save us from “venomous snakes” like Tanya & Tariq who bite us from within us n grant us Shauq e Shahadat (eagerness to die in Allah’a cause). It might not seem linked but I feel ppl like T&T can’t possibly understand what so many brothers n sisters like Fawwaz or Bint e Hawwa have said on this blog cuz T&T can sell their nation or kill all humanity to live for one day more than their designated times of deaths. Love of life. That’s their problem. And many other Muslims who don’t want to think about sister Aafia. May Allah bless us with hidayat. Ameen

    Dr. Aafia Siddiqui! I am sorry because i don’t have words for you. but in all my duas i am praying for you. May Allah give you Aafiat and aaman.and may your exams be ends now.
    But on the other hand I want to ask the question to all muslims that now where is Muhammad Bin Qasim, Muhatisum Billah, Hajaj Bin Yousaf. if there is not any one, then why we are warried about our sisters and doughters. beacuse when we dont have added strength and moral power to stop our enemies we dont have right to cry and ask about them. We have only one way that we ask like bagers.

    O my God give me power to bring my sister back. aameen

    May Allah save Dr. Aafia. I have no words to express my grief. I never knew about her but today i read the whole story. I wonder why she is not being presented infront of court. If they think she is at fault atleast she should be given the right to defend herself. All of these acts like kidnapping and allegedly imprisoning people will not help in reducing terrorism. Every religion teachs peace and Alhamdolillah Islam is at the top of all the religions in terms of teachings of peace and humanity. My Allah help Dr. Aafia and save her from insane people.

    Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist who grew up in the U.S. and went to top universities, including the prestigious MIT university, who had an outstanding record as a student. She had to leave the U.S. when the authorities began harassing her and her husband for their charity activities. They came back to Karachi, Pakistan. One day in March 2003, this talented young woman was picked up by Pak & FBI operatives from Karachi, and then sent to Afghanistan where she was tortured, and kept in a prison at US detention facility at Bagaram without any trial and charges against her. In 2005 when Moazzam Beg was released from Guantanamo, he wrote a book Enemy Combatant in which he explains that in his detention at bagaram many times he listened screams of a woman which still today echoing in his nightmares. Later on he came to know from his fellow detainees who were also transferred from Bagram to Guanatanamo, that they had same experience of listening terrible screams of woman. Similarly in 2005 four detainees of Bagaram escaped and while on run they gave interview to a tv Channel Al Arabia about their escape and also revealed that there is Pakistani woman detainee, who is brutally tortured by US Soldiers and her screams prompted them to go for a hunger strike for six days, to pressurize US soldiers, to end torturing her.

    Yvone Ridely, a british journalist after reading moazzam’s book, starts the quest for that lady prisoner and disclosed the fact in a press conference in July 2008 that the Ghost Prisoner 650, is Dr Afia Siddiqui. At this point US authorities were being under attack from all human rights organizations around the world and they had no other alternative but to disclose her detention. They did it, but in way that their cooked story was even beyond the reach of Hollywood scriptwriters, claiming that she was caught in Afghanistan near the governor’s office with explosives substance in July 2008. This half alive woman assaulted a team of FBI & US troops with M4 Rifle and shot several rounds of fire. Surprisingly none of the US soldier got bullet, they remained safe but in self-defense they shot her.

    Now US officials are completely ignorant about her disappearance from 2003 to july 2008 which is a blatant lie, trying to hide her five year secret detention and inhuman torture in a story which no one can believe. In five years of her detention she was not charged with anything. And that is proof of her innocence which we should not forget.

    Although one of her child is repatriated to Pakistan but two are still missing, who were being kidnapped along with her. There are also some reports that one of her child died in detention.

    We don’t have any hope that she will get a fair trial in US Court. Now this is a time for all of us who believe in humanity, justice and truth, to stand up for our innocent sister.

    We must exert all our pressure for demanding immediate release of Dr Afia and her children.

    Pakistan should immediately withdraw transit facilities given to US and NATO Military Shipment to Afghanistan, as the US continues to keep Dr. Afia in their custody on basis of thier cooked story on which no one can believe. We must realize that our cruel leaders have ability to negotiate rescheduling of loans but they cant negotiate or pressurize US to release afia.

    born and raised in britain to parents of pakistani origin, i am just about getting round to the idea that i am proud of my parents native land, i want to be known as a just pakistani rather than brit born pakistani until now, yet another conspiracy!!so ashamed!! I feel so helpless in my attempts to do anything for the family and dr afia herself. Allah swt will surely grant her justice in the ahkirah, and punish those who are involved (pakistani governemnt!)in oppressing dr afia’s innocense as well as many others. the jihad of her life, the pain she has faced, will inshallah grant her peace. Alhamdulila.

    Once back in time did a young man by name Mohammad Bin Qasim come and conquered Sindh because his Uncle had seen a dream that a Muslim woman was held by infedels. Shame on Pak government who got no respect for its citizens. They just hand over their own citizens to Americans on alleged accusations by Americans that she is SUSPECTED of assisting Murder attempt of Americans. This is a shame for PAkistan government of handing over its own citizens over to Americans and allow them to be totured. The Government should demand her her released and let to return back to Pakistan. But the Government of Pakistan has no Courage or moral at all. They just think of how much corruption they can do and that is it. They should all be executed without any mercy at all. Shame on them.

    There is only one solution to the woes of the ” muslim world ” , indeed the whole world . The imposition of ISLAMIC SHARIAH ( ALLAH’S LAW ) . This scares the underwear off the “rulers” of planet Earth . Islam & Shariah represents JUSTICE & ONCE THE CITIZENS OF THE WORLD “TASTE” REAL JUSTICE , THEN IT IS THE END FOR ALL HYPOCRITES WHO CURRENTLY RULE THE WORLD .
    May Allah give Faith , Patience & Health to all , including Dr. Afia Siddiqui . AMEEN.
