Video shows Libyans helping rescue U.S. ambassador after attack

Here are some other interesting aspects of the sad incident happened in Libya.

Video shows Libyans helping rescue U.S. ambassador after attack

(Reuters) – An amateur video appears to show Libyans trying to rescue U.S. ambassador Christopher Stevens from a room filled with smoke at the U.S. mission where he was found unconscious after last week’s attack by a mob protesting against a film that denigrates the Prophet Mohammad.

The video, which appeared on the internet and a copy of which was obtained by Reuters in Benghazi, confirms reports that suggested the U.S. envoy died of asphyxiation after the building caught fire.

Our leaders appear compromised can they be trusted –>Ansar Abbasi ,The News

After the WikiLeaks deluge

By Ansar Abbasi

Source : http://thenews.com.pk/02-12-2010/ethenews/t-2415.htm

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan stands insecure as our leadership, both political and military, ruling the country have been exposed by no one else but Washington, to whom our leadership is shown by WikiLeaks to have sold their souls at the cost of national integrity, honour and prestige.
Is our fate in safe hands? This is the fundamental questionthat boggles almost every mind in Pakistan as the WikiLeaks bombshell, believed to be deliberately leaked by Washington to attain its designs including chaos in Pakistan, leaves hardly anyone among the leaders here to be trusted.
Each and every word of WikiLeaks would be taken as true if Pakistani authorities and leaders, blamed and shamed by these leaks, do not come out with a clear answer. They need to reply, more importantly through their actions, that Pakistan is no more American domain.
Otherwise, WikiLeaks precisely proves what was earlier said i.e. Pakistan has been practically reduced from a sovereign state to an American colony as the president, prime minister, top political leaders and even Army chief all have been shown pleasing or taking into confidence the US ambassador — the de facto viceroy of Pakistan — to continue ruling the roost with the blessings of Washington.
DG ISI Lt Gen Pasha too crossed the limits of discipline as he is shown by the WikiLeaks to have told US officials that President Asif Ali Zardari was corrupt. The question here arises why did he report such purely internal matter to the Americans.
The only exception has been Imran Khan, the man who on the face of Americans has been criticising US policies, drone attacks, the so-called war on terror besides asking for negotiated settlement with Taliban to end extremism and refusing to dance to the tunes of the “real masters” of this unfortunate country.
Shame is too little a word to reflect on the portrayed conduct of those ruling Pakistan after one goes through the WikiLeaks, which is expected to heap more dirt on Pakistan as well as the Muslim nations.
What would be more shameful than reading President Asif Ali Zardari as conceding to the Americans, “We are here because of you,” and then assuring Washington, “We won’t act without consulting with you.” To the pleasure of his masters, Zardari committed Pakistan to the war on terror, insisting that it was Pakistan’s own war.
Asfandyar Wali too shares the shame by inviting Washington to influence both Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari through Jeddah and Dubai to mend fences. Why did he invite three foreign countries in matters purely pertaining to internal politics?
Look at the callousness of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who on the issue of drone attacks told Washington, “I don’t care if they (US) do it (carry out drone attacks) as long as they get the right people. We’ll protest in the National Assembly and then ignore it.” The premier had snubbed the interior minister Rehman Malik, who had suggested to the Americans that the Predator attacks should be stopped after the Bajaur operation.
Look at the double speak of the PML-N, whose top leadership both Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan were shown repeatedly assuring the Americans that the PML-N was pro-America. To leave no doubt about his loyalty to the Americans, Nawaz recounted his decision to override his Chief of Army Staff and deploy Pakistani troops to Saudi Arabia in support of the US coalition in the first Gulf War. Here Chaudhry Nisar Khan reminded that it was the PPP and its leaders who were organising street demonstrations against Pakistan joining with the US coalition.
Exposing the hypocrisy of the already stinking Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the WikiLeaks revealed that the leader of the country’s most fiercely pro-Taliban religious party, hosted a jovial dinner for Ms Patterson at which the Maulana sought her backing to become the prime minister and expressed a desire to visit America. His lieutenant Abdul Ghafoor Haideri acknowledged that “All important parties in Pakistan had to get the approval of the US (to get power).” Just compare the actions of these Maulanas to what they preach in their speeches. Simply disgraceful!
Interior minister Rehman Malik is referred to as a frequent and co-operative interlocutor, who professes his support for cooperation with the United States.
No less shocking is the way the Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has been opening his heart and mind before the Americans, including the US ambassador. Otherwise giving the impression of being a man of few words, the Army chief spoke before the Americans against President Zardari and opposition leader Nawaz Sharif, and also talked of getting resignation from the president and tailoring democracy to his sweet choice.
He also hinted at supporting Asfandyar Wali Khan, the leader of the Awami National Party, as the new president. Kayani even made it clear to Ms Patterson, the former US ambassador, that regardless of how much he disliked Zardari, he distrusted Nawaz even more.
Such hobnobbing of the military chief with any foreign diplomat or official, what to talk of Americans, is undoubtedly a violation of discipline and breach of his oath. Unluckily, we have a tainted president, tainted prime minister and tainted political leaders otherwise this is a fit case of seeking explanation from the Army chief.
With such leadership, both political and military, Pakistan’s future is really bleak. Whom should we trust? Who is free from the US influence? Can we become a sovereign nation? Can we take our own decisions? Why do we have more faith in Washington than in God? How could we save Pakistan from being destabilised after reading what our president, prime minister, political leaders and Army chief have said to a minnow American — Anne Patterson? With such leadership, how can we tackle the problem of terrorism? Who would save us from disgrace and shame?
One hardly has any answer to the above questions. Our irony is that our leaders are leading us to shame like never before. What option do they have to undo what they have brought for this country and its people? Resignations and stepping down from their respective public and political offices is one option. Another option is to say a firm no to the American drone attacks, cut the Nato supply line, revisit our policy on US’s so-called war on terror, halt all military operations inside Pakistan, open up dialogue with the local Taliban leaders to bring to an end terrorism and desist from dancing to the tunes of Americans.
Otherwise these leaks, containing truths and half-truths all suiting Washington but embarrassing others, are bound to create more mistrust and chaos in the country, which is the actual design of those having leaked it from Washington.

Appeal to the civil society of world–>Justice required in Nayyar Zaidi case

It’s a real shame for USA justice system that every now and then we see people becoming victims of state run security agencies and the justice system in USA fails to protect them.

We have seen a shameful example of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi who is still having terrible time in USA and also an old man with the name Nayyar Zaidi is going through a mental torture because of the USA system of justice.

We in Pakistan and other third world countries are used to of similar but a country which claims to be the most progressive civilization and a symbol of democracy should not have such things in their society.

It is quiet clear that Nayyar Zaidi was trapped by USA security agencies in a shamefully false case and the victim’s family is getting not much help from the civil society of the world.

Therefore we appeal to the civil society of the world to do what ever they can to provide justice to an old man is who is facing may be the toughest time of his life.

Below is the message on Facebook by Nayyar’s family:

Rally demands pre-November 3 judiciary—>Daily Times

United4Justice: Good to see movement back on track.

By Rana Tanveer

LAHORE: More than 250 people, including lawyers and civil society activists, held a rally from outside Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan’s residence to The Mall on Sunday and demanded the restoration of the judiciary to its pre-November 3 position.

The protesters gathered outside Ahsan’s residence, 5 Zaman Park, which has been declared as a sub-jail for him. They began their march from there to The Mall via the Canal Road without disturbing traffic. They were holding the national flag and wore black armbands and protested against Benazir Bhutto’s killing and extension in Aitzaz’s detention. They shouted anti-government and pro-Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) slogans.

The police wanted the protestors not to take to The Mall, but they did not pay heed. After gathering on The Mall, they distributed pamphlets in favour of the deposed judges among the people. They observed silence for a minute to commemorate Benazir Bhutto and then sung the national anthem before returning to Aitzaz’s residence where they held a candlelit vigil by placing a large portrait of former PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.

Earlier, addressing the protesters, Bushra Aitzaz said the pervasive sense of despondency reflected that the country had been experiencing the worst since long. The restoration of chief justice in the wake of the March 9 movement had been taken as a silver lining, but the country again plunged into despair after Benazir’s killing, she said. “Had there been an independent judiciary in the country, the need for inviting the Scotland Yard for probing Benazir’s murder would not have arisen,” she said.

Ms Aitzaz said people doubted if the movement would help gain independence for the judiciary. “Every movement takes time to take roots and succeed. If we abandon the movement now, those following us will be stranded,” she said, and added that it had been unfortunate that Pakistan had been divided in 1971, and again it stood on the verge of disaster.

She said the government had gagged the media to hide the facts of Benazir’s assassination from the people. She said the government had confined the deposed judges since November 3 and even barred their children from attending schools. She said several institutes around the world had declared that the country could not run under President Pervez Musharraf. “If we joined hands to strive for our mission, we can make him go sooner,” she added.

Former Sindh inspector general and Lahore deputy inspector general Sayyed Salman Khaliq distributed pamphlets among the people during the protest rally. He told Daily Times that the country was being pushed to the brink of civil war. He said the people would not accept the Chaudhries. He said holding free and fair elections the only way to save the federation. He urged the people to take to the streets against the government.

Dr Ijaz Ahsan, brother of Aitzaz Ahsan, condemned the government for extending the detention of his brother. He said Aitzaz had never committed anything illegal and the government was wrongly detaining him. Columnist Shafqat Mahmood said he felt sorry that the people were still not reacting the way they should have on the murder of Benazir Bhutto.

Concerned Citizen of Pakistan representative Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal, Joint Action Committee representative Shahtaj Qazalbash, PPP former MPA Sagheera Islam, Pakistan Medical Association President Dr Zahid Muhiuddin and Teachers’ Action Forum representative Sara Zaman were also present on the occasion.

Musharraf’s Address—->Worst Part

The worst Part of the speech is “I SPOT A POLITICAL AND ETHNIC COLORING TO
THIS LOOT AND PLUNDER THAT IS UTTERLY UNBEARABLE.”

Either someone gave him the wrong information or he is intentionally giving it an ethnic color
so as to find a new “problem” to solve and a reason to “rule”. He is speaking the language of
PML-Q (or you can say Chaudhry brothers of PML-Q are speaking his language)

Our President is doing the best he can to destroy the country and damage its integrity.

Below is the Dictator’s Address to the Nation.

MY PAKISTANI BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

THE NATION FACED A GREAT TRAGEDY. I OFFERED CONDOLENCE TO THE BEREAVED FAMILY INCLUDING ASIF ZARDARI, SANAM BHUTTO OVER THE SAD DEMISE OF BENAZIR BHUTTO.

AFTER THE DEATH OF MOHATARAMA BENAZIR BHUTTO, THE CONDITIONS OF THE COUNTRY WORSENED VERY BADLY. THE UNCERTAINTY PREVAILED OVER THE WHOLE COUNTRY.
I REALIZE THE GRIEF OF BENAZIR’S SAD DEMISE PERMEATES THE RANK AND FILE ESPECIALLY MY SINDHI BROTHERS AND SISTERS. I AM ALSO GRIEVED AND ANNOYED OVER THIS. I FULLY VALUE THE SENTIMENTS OF THE WHOLE NATION.
THE RECENT LAWLESSNESS CAUSED THE NATION AND COUNTRY TO SUFFER A IRREPARABLE LOSS.
PEOPLE LIVING ON DAILY WAGES COULD NOT GO TO THEIR WORK AND FACED SEVERAL HARDSHIPS. THE VEHICLES WERE TORCHED; PAKISTAN RAILWAYS RECEIVED THE MAXIMUM DAMAGE; TRAINS AND TRACKS WERE SET ABLAZE THAT LED PASSENGERS TO PASS THROUGH VARIOUS TROUBLES.
MOREOVER, THE BANKS WERE LOOTED AND GUTTED; THE SHOPS WERE RANSACKED; THE PRISONS WERE ATTACKED AND THE SEVERAL HUNDRED IMPRISONED PEOPLE WERE RELEASED, WHO ARE NOW CREATING LAW AND ORDER PROBLEMS.
EC OFFICES WERE SET ON FIRE CAUSING MUCH DAMAGE. I WAS TOLD THAT CERTAIN ILL-NATURED ELEMENTS ARE STILL BEING WITNESSED WANDERING SPORTING MACHINE GUNS AND ROCKET LAUNCHERS.
I SPOT A POLITICAL AND ETHNIC COLORING TO THIS LOOT AND PLUNDER THAT IS UTTERLY UNBEARABLE.
THE LOSS AND DAMAGE IS BEING ESTIMATED AND IT IS TOLD THAT LOSS IS WORTH SEVERAL BILLIONS OF RUPEES.
I ASKED THE PRIME MINISTER TO INSTITUTE A COMMISSION TO ESTIMATE THE LOSS AND DIRECTED THE CONCERNED OFFICIALS TO TAKE SERIOUS ACTION AGAINST WHOSOEVER FOUND GUILTY OF NEGLIGENCE IN THE RECENT TUMULT.
THE FIR’S SHOULD BE REGISTERED AGAINST THE INSTANCES OF LOOT AND PLUNDER. THE PRISONERS UNLEASHED IN THE RECENT PAST, SHOULD BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE PRISON. ANYONE SPORTING WEAPON SHOULD BE PUT BEHIND BARS.
WE APPOINTED RANGERS AND ARMY FOR THE SAFETY OF LIFE AND PROPERTY. THESE FORCES WILL REMAIN POSTED TILL AFTER THE ELECTIONS.
WE WILL STERNLY DEAL WITH ALL THOSE WHO WILL TRY TO CREATE LAW AND ORDER SITUATION TILL ELECTIONS OR DURING ELECTIONS.
THE PACKAGE WOULD BE GIVEN TO COMPENSATE THE PEOPLE.
A BRITISH TEAM OF SCOTLAND YARD WILL BE INVITED TO ASSIST OUR INVESTIGATORS IN CONDUCTING THE PROBE INTO THE ASSASSINATION OF MOHTARMA BENAZIR BHUTTO.
IN THIS REGARD I THANK THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER GORDON BROWN. I HOPE THAT THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE MURDER CASE OF MS BHUTTO WILL HELP REMOVE ALL THE DOUBTS.

THE OTHER IMPORTANT THING IS THE ELECTION DATE WHICH HAD TO BE ANNOUNCED FOR HOLDING POLLS.

THE ELECTIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN HELD ON JANUARY 8. BUT THE RECENT RIOTS ERUPTED ACROSS THE COUNTRY DAMAGED THE ELECTORAL PROCESS. MAXIMUM DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO ELECTION COMMISSION’S OFFICES IN SINDH.

IT IS ESSENTIAL TO GO INTO DETAILS OF HOW BENAZIR WAS MARTYRED. IT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE NATION’S CONFUSION OVER. I REQUEST MEDIA NOT TO SPREAD THIS CONFUSION.
I WANT THE ELECTIONS TO BE HELD IN FREE, FAIR, TRANSPARENT AND PEACEFUL MANNER.

FIRST, I HAD NO INTENTION TO DEPLOY THE ARMY IN THE COUNTRY DURING THE ELECTIONS BUT NOW DUE TO THE LAW AND ORDER SITUATION, IN MY OPINION, IT HAS BECOME VITAL TO UTILIZE THE ARMY AND THE RANGERS.

THEREFORE, SERVICES OF THE ARMY AND THE RANGERS WILL BE UTILIZED FOR MAINTAINING THE LAW AND ORDER SITUATION AND HOLDING THE ELECTIONS IN PEACEFUL MANNER ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, UP TO THE ELECTIONS AND EVEN AFTER THE ELECTIONS.

NO AGITATION AND RIOTING WILL BE ALLOWED DURING AND AFTER THE ELECTIONS.

I APPEAL TO ALL BROTHERS AND SISTERS TO COOPERATE IN MAINTAINING THE LAW AND ORDER SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY.

THIS IS THE TIME OF POLITICAL RECONCILIATION AND NOT FOR CONFLICTS.

I REQUEST YOU TO PREFER PAKISTAN TO ALL MATTERS. CONSIDER PAKISTAN OVER ALL POLITICAL INTERESTS.

THE MISSION OF BENAZIR BHUTTO WAS THE PROMOTION OF DEMOCRACY AND ELIMINATION OF TERRORISM. I HAVE ALSO THE SAME MISSION.

THIS IS MY CONVICTION THAT THE STABILITY, DEVELOPMENT AND PERPETUITY OF THE COUNTRY RELY ON THE SUCCESS OF THIS MISSION.

INSHAALLAH, AFTER THE ELECTIONS, A CONSTITUTIONAL AND DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT WOULD BE FORMED WHICH WILL TAKE PAKISTAN TOWARDS DEVELOPMENT AND PROSPERITY DURING THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.

IF WE DO NOT UNDERTAKE TO WORK AGAINST THE EXTREMISM AND TERRORISM, THE FUTURE OF PAKISTAN MAY GO BLEAK.

I WANT TO PINPOINT TWO PEOPLE IN CONNECTION WITH THE TERRORISM—BAITULLAH MEHSUD AND FAZLULLAH. I REQUEST THE MEDIA TO UNCOVER THEM. I WANT THE ROOTS AND FOUNDATION OF SUICIDE ATTACKS FULLY EXPOSED.

I PRAY TO ALLAH TO DIRECT US TO WALK ON THE RIGHT PATH. I WISH ALLAH TO HELP AND AID PAKISTAN.

LONG LIVE PAKISTAN.

Meeting of CJP Iftikhar with Saudi Ambassador.

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Al Awadh Asseri on Friday met deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who was the prime victim of Provincial Constitutional Ordinance (PCO) here in judges colony.

Sources said that the meeting that lasted more than 1 hour was arranged by Foreign Ministry on the request of Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Al Awadh Asseri.

During the meeting, the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the steps taken by President Musharraf on November 03 including his house arrest have no legal backing.

He said he and his family members are facing enormous difficulties due to house arrest while the Government has a stance that they are free to move. The overall current situation also came under discussion during the talks between them, sources added.

When Government sources were contacted in this respect they rejected the impression that the meeting was arranged by the Government and said it was the wish of Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Al Awadh Asseri.

Sources said that the Saudi Ambassador had also offered deposed Chief Justice to offer Hajj on expenditure of Saudi Government, which was positively responded by (CJ).

It is expected that the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will leave for Saudi Arabia to offer Hajj this year. It may be recalled that the deposed Judge of apex Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday will leave for Saudi Arabia on December 10.

After meeting with deposed Chief Justice, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Al Awadh Asseri met high-level officers of Interior ministry and discussed various vital issues.

Major progress is expected in upcoming days in this respect because Quaid Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also held one on one talks with Saudi envoy recently on the issue of judiciary, sources maintained.
